![]() Brigitte Chandler Many people have been exposed to extensive noise for long periods at work without proper ear protection or warnings about the dangers of noise. If this happens, they may suffer hearing impairment. If they undergo tests at the hospital a Doctor can diagnose whether or not the deafness was caused by industrial noise or whether there is another cause. If the Doctor diagnoses industrial deafness, then you would be entitled to compensation from the employer. This would include damages for loss of hearing and tinnitus if it occurs. In addition, claims can be made for any special gadgets that are required to assist with the hearing impairment, e.g. flashing telephones. A claim can also be made to purchase private hearing aids if they are required. If there is a disadvantage on the labour market because of the hearing impairment, a claim can also be made for this sum.
We have recently settled a case for industrial deafness for £40,000.00 plus costs.
