Commercial property lawyer, Hugh Ellins of Charles Lucas & Marshall has just completed a deal to secure the future of Nationwide Conference team, Forest Green Rovers.

The team, based at Nailsworth, near Stroud had been told they would need to upgrade their ground if they wanted to continue to play in the Nationwide Conference league.

This was the signal for a long and complex process of negotiations with the local highways and planning authorities with the final outcome resulting in a win for everyone all round.

Forest Green Rovers moved grounds to a new site a stone’s throw away in Nympsfield Road which not only provides better facilities for the football club - but also offers a range of sporting facilities for the local community to enjoy. The team’s old site has been sold to housing developers.

“This has involved a substantial amount of effort on everyone's part,” says Hugh Ellins. “Not least, we have had to move a telecommunications mast, agree a deal with the developer of the old site, buy land from the County Council and settle various statutory agreements.

“There was also an issue with a colony of slow-worms on the new site which have had to be relocated to a nearby farmer’s field, complete with a barrier to prevent them migrating back.”
