| Swindon Church Service for Asbestos Group St Mark’s Church, Swindon, Sunday 24 September, 4pm |
|
|
Swindon & South West Asbestos group will be holding its annual service of thanksgiving and remembrance at St Mark’s Church, Swindon on Sunday 24 September.
The service – which starts at 4pm – is open to everyone. Anyone who has lost a loved one through asbestos disease or has a relative currently very ill as a result of asbestos can contact the charity and ask if their loved one can be mentioned in prayers during the service.
It is the fourth service the Swindon & South West Asbestos group has held at St Mark’s which is located in the railway village area of Swindon and which has taken a special interest in the charity because of the high numbers of railway workers who have died as a result of coming into contact with asbestos.
The charity now has three support groups in the South West for sufferers, widows and wives. The assistant Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Lieutenant Colonel James Arkell will be attending the service while lessons and prayers will be read by asbestos sufferers and their families.
Sue Randall of the Swindon Widows and Wives group will also talk about their work of and the benefits of joining, says Brigitte Chandler, a specialist lawyer in industrial disease at Charles Lucas & Marshall and who founded the charity four years ago.
After the service everyone is invited to a high tea so they can meet members of the group and find out if it can be of any help.
