When Stewart qualified he was awarded distinctions in company law and revenue law. His particular experience is in acquisitions and sales, including management buy-outs and buy-ins.

Stewart also has extensive experience advising on and implementing shareholder, partnership and joint venture agreements, as well as providing ongoing support and assistance.

Stewart's field is broad-ranging which includes advising on contractual issues and documentation.

Stewart advises owners and managers of companies and businesses, whether private or incorporated and whether or not they have a majority of minority stake or investment in the company or business. Apart from start-up or emerging businesses, the level of turnover of his clients tends to be in the region of £2 million to £10 million.

Notable work recently undertaken includes the acquisition of an Australian company by individual investors with the assistance of substantial private equity finance. He has also worked on a number of complex Partnership and Joint Venture Agreements and an increasing number of relatively simple but effective Shareholders’ Agreements to protect both majority, as well as minority shareholders. Stewart is also finding an increasing number of clients looking for practical advice on the changes in law, practices and procedure under the Companies Act 2006 including as to the codification of directors’ duties and as to how the new provisions with regard to derivative claims may replace or supplement a claim for unfair prejudicial conduct.
