![]() Paul Trincas QUESTION Can I lose my driving licence for speeding? I am a Sales Rep. I was recently stopped by the police on the M4 for driving at 110 m.p.h.
ANSWER Yes, speeding offences, although carrying endorsement between 3 and 6 points, like all endorsable offences, also carry the possibility of discretionary disqualification for any period of time. With a recorded speed 110 m.p.h. (i.e. 40 m.p.h. over the limit) you could expect to receive a driving disqualification of between 1 week and 1 month - depending on your circumstances.

QUESTION I have 9 points on my driving licence and have now been summonsed for driving through a red light. Is my driving licence at risk?
ANSWER Yes, the current offences carries 3 points and takes your points tally to 12. If the existing 9 points accrued within the 3 years immediately prior to the commission of the current offence then, by law, you must be disqualified from driving for a minimum period of 6 months. However, if you can persuade the Court that such a disqualification will cause exceptional hardship, the Court has the power either to reduce the disqualification or even not disqualify you at all.
