The sticky end and a new beginning
I was all set to blog about the landmark Imerman case this week. In this case, the Court of Appeal ruled that the Husband’s right to privacy and confidentiality trumps the right of the Wife to relevant financial information before the Court.
Previously a spouse was entitled to copy and produce evidence even if that evidence had been obtained without the other spouse’s knowledge, for example by hacking into their computer. The ruling has been described as a ‘cheat’s charter’ as it makes it much easier for a spouse to hide assets and not declare them to the court.
But then I saw the pictures of Chelsea Clinton’s wedding and thought that, just for once, it would be nice to keep off the subject of divorce and wish the happy couple well. The dress was by Vera Wang and worth every one of the very many pennies it no doubt cost. How lovely to see a traditional wedding with bride and groom looking radiant and the congregation obviously thrilled to share a special day.
Let’s hope they never need to worry about the rules relating to disclosure in divorce.
