![]() Family of Asbestos Victim Appeals for Witnesses
![]() Brigitte Chandler ![]() Frances Theobald 1969 ![]() Frances Theobald 2008 The family of a former Swindon factory worker who has died from an asbestos-related disease is appealing to former work colleagues to come forward and help in their claim for compensation.
Frances Theobald worked from 1962 - 1971 at Garrards Engineering and Manufacturing in Swindon which produced turntables for old, vinyl music records. She died earlier this year and her daughter, Ann Rivers of Whitworth, Swindon now wants to take legal action against her mother's former employers.
The family's solicitor, Brigitte Chandler of Charles Lucas & Marshall and a specialist in asbestos related disease, is keen to speak to former colleagues of Mrs Theobald.
"Apparently Mrs Theobald's job involved working with compressed asbestos - a grey powder - which was used in the form of a grey pad under the turntables to keep the record level flat so the records would be able to play and not get warped," she says.
"We believe there have already been several deaths of workers at the factory as a result of this exposure to asbestos."
Brigitte Chandler is one of the UK's leading legal specialists in asbestos-related disease and is anxious to speak to anyone who worked at the Garrards factory and who can remember the use of the grey pad in the production of turntables.
"The symptoms of asbestos-related illnesses can take between 15 to 60 years to emerge," says Brigitte Chandler. "We are keen to speak to anyone who worked for Garrards in the 1960s and who confirm the use of the grey pad in these turntables."
