Divorce Fair
![]() Lyn Ellins Wedding fairs have long been established as a showcase for couples to choose what sort of ceremony they want to celebrate their marriage. In what some might see as a bizarre twist, a hotel in Brighton recently played host to a "divorce fair".
The lawyers' organisation Resolution was an exhibitor, spreading the word that not all lawyers encourage their clients to hammer out their differences in court. Alternative processes such as Collaborative Practice and Mediation can lead to amicable settlements assisted by lawyers in a facilitative role. Charles Lucas and Marshall is fully committed to providing its clients with a full choice. All of our lawyers are members of Resolution and the majority are also qualified in Collaborative Practice.
Even in these secular times, many people still prefer to get married in church. And now they can get divorced with the blessing of a Separation Ceremony, conducted by a minister of the Rhythm of Life non-denominational church. Ministers who are more used to presiding over weddings and funerals are able to offer a spiritual dimension to the ending of a marriage.
For those who find they need additional support over and above the practical, legal help offered by lawyers there are now many services available. At the Divorce Fair, browsers could choose from, amongst others, feng shui consultants, reflexology practitioners, colour psychologists, psychic healers and financial consultants as well as makers of luxury chocolates and spa products. There was even a photographer who has found that many people like to record the start of their new life.
Divorce is a stressful and difficult process but there are positive sides to it. You do not have to face it alone. At Charles Lucas and Marshall, we can refer you to a number of professionals and advisors who can help to take the sting out of the process. Whilst we see our role as helping our clients through the legal procedure, we recognise that sometimes they need more psychological or even physical support.
