The Rotary Club of Newbury’s annual Sponsored Charity Walk took place on the 10th June. After dreadful weather last year we were favoured with almost perfect walking weather. The walk started at the control tower on Greenham Common and linked down to the canal at Thatcham, along the canal to Bull’s lock and returning via a lane and Bowdown Woods giving a great variety of scenery.
Some 35 walkers, perhaps depleted by the days unpleasant forecast and last year’s soaking, walked for their various charities and good causes and raised in excess of £2700. Charities supported on the day included scouts and cubs, represented in the attached photograph by the 4th Newbury Scouts, Brain Tumour Support, Bruce Trust, Christian Aid, Eight Bells, Loose Ends, Mencap, Newbury Family Counselling, Sandham Memorial Chapel, Slough Wrestling Club, & Stroke Care for Newbury.
This annual event is facilitated by The Rotary Club of Newbury who plan and marshall the walk for those charities and good causes, small and large, local, national and international, that need to raise critical funds simply by sponsorship of their walkers.
Organising Rotarians Eddie Webb and Will Job said,”Other than a small donation to Rotary it is free, healthy and rewarding to all who take part. This is part of our community programme in support of others. If any charities would be interested in taking part in next year’s event please make contact on telephone number 01635 42027 or email email@example.com ”
Rotary runs countless humanitarian projects both locally, nationally and internationally, and also partners with many charities worldwide. By combining our skills and resources, we are able to make a real contribution to the lives of others.
